Masked Rider Agito - Volume 02 DVD9

Episode 05
Episode 06
Episode 07
Episode 08

Additionally, and embarrassingly, there is a word missing from one line in the opening translation. Below are links to updated files, as well as patches to the final, as it was literally just a missing word and a remux. If you have the files, we would suggest using that, as it's a 110kb download instead of several hundred. Just unzip to the folder the original files are in (MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE ORIGINAL NAME FOR THE LOVE OF SCIENCE) and double click the bat. We are not your parents though, so do what you like.

By the way, a free account on Packupload shortens its wait time, so you may wish to make one. Use a spam email address and forget about it if you wish.

Patches for 02-04
Episode 02 fixed
Episode 03 fixed
Episode 04 fixed

True story, after catching the problem on a cursory glance of episode five, and then backtracking out of (warranted) paranoia to episode two, it turned out that the problem was fixed on the way through episode six itself, but even still not in the file that gets concatenated to scripts to add the lines in. We don't know how that happened either.

Masked Rider Agito - Disc 1 DVD9

Figured the more episodes are in the wild, the easier it'll be to seed, so since the first disc's worth are done here they are.

None of these have been resized to 720x480 the way all the DVD5 sourced episodes were, as that would just hard code a slight blur into the files, and these discs are so much better looking than the shitty recompressed versions that we did not wish to impart such. Granted, if you fullscreen the playback, your player will probably use a worse scaler than avisynth's spline36() or blackman(), but at least the source itself (which you may wish to make screencaps of) will be pure. They all expand to 16:9 just like the other ones anyway, even if it's not the same dimensions to reach that ratio. Also, the files are given a higher bitrate encode, so they're slightly larger than average, though still smaller than the hilarious episode 42.

Also, in case you haven't actually noticed at any point, the track title for the video track in these muxes contains the episode title. It did in the original 1-10 too, which is why we decided putting it in the filename was stupid and redundant, but at least this way you can access that information at all, since Rider shows started hiding those titles for a while after Kuuga.

Masked Rider Agito - Project G4

480p - Stereo AAC
720p - 5.1 AAC
1080p - 5.1 Wavpack

The HD versions are segmented 7-zip archives, because they're too big for Packupload. Heck, the 1080p is 7.3GB so it's too big for pretty much anything.

Both HD versions are 10bit encodes. The 1080p is completely unfiltered, just a minor crop off the sides of some junk data, so it's not perfectly 1920x1080, as that kind of tiny horizontal scale would just blur things for no good reason. It's basically a straight recompress of the source, using tech that allows better compression/quality than the disc was allowed to in the first place.

The smaller two are hit with a fairly light dfttest and use 16bit resizers to give the 10bit encoder some real 10bit data to work with, as there's no real point in preserving the exact grains if you're going to be shrinking them anyway.

And with that, it's probably high time we get back to finalizing 1-12 with the new video, and swapping out the song/styles on the older episodes that we might finally have a batch.

Masked Rider Agito Special: A New Transformation

Masked Rider Agito Special: A New Transformation

That's a lot of bling on that title screen isn't it? Why you ask? Because this special is aggressively terrible, (to the point that it was responsible for a large part of the delay that preceded the recent sprint to the finish line), and serves little purpose except getting the general public up to speed to see Project G4. Silly typesetting crap like that, including title that is already translated to English right there (which is why it's never subbed in the episodes) was a defense mechanism; a way to keep sane.

This episode is stupid. We do not recommend watching it. It contradicts the series in a large way, but not in a way that makes the story held within any better, and it introduces a new character that should be more important than he winds up. A character with a tedious speech tic to boot.

It's done though, so you can watch it if you're so inclined.

The original plan, by the way, was that Project G4 would just be a mux against the old Tokuraws encode, but there are some issues with that so we obtained the BD and have a 1080p, 720p, and 480p encode on the way. The big two are done already even, though distribution will be a nuisance (the 1080p is 7.3gb).

Thanks to the kindness of strangers (to you people, we know who), discs 1-3 DVD9 are available, so episodes 1-12 will be getting fresh encodes from better source (11-12 having already at least been done 480p h.264, but from a bad source).

You didn't think we'd die off just because we finally finished the series proper, did you?

Masked Rider Agito - 51 (FINAL)

Farewell, Hikawa!

Farewell Agito!

This has been a long time coming. Far too long we think.

But we aren't done yet. First we have the shameless advertising for the movie, then the movie itself. Then we have to go back and give proper video versions of 1-10, and leave these silly 640x360 XviD videos in the past (aside from the shameless advertising that isn't really worth watching anyway).

Also expect some patches abound for 12-26, if only to update the font size to readable (the original style was scaled against said 640x360 videos and not enough thought went into the change to full anamorphic ED) and to swap to HeatMetal's translation of the OP.

Then, at last, a nice complete batch.

But if you have been watching along, and aren't too worried about the past, you can now finally finish the second Heisei era Masked Rider show; the cornerstone of the majority of its decade, without having to put up with the horrors of Cruel Angel Productions and BrownRanger's collective incompetence.

We hope you enjoyed the flight.

Masked Rider Agito - 46

You need nicer meeting quarters.

And with this, only one disc remains. It acts as a continuous arc, so look forward to that. Remember back when Masked/Kamen Rider shows didn't slavishly adhere to two episode story arcs? Good times, eh?

Masked Rider Agito - 42

Masked Rider Agito - 42

Welcome to Volume 11, second of three five episode discs. Welcome to probably the most important episode of the series. And, finally, welcome to by far the greatest victim of DVDShrink's tyranny.

You may notice that this is by a wide margin the largest episode yet. Why? Because this episode is full of grain. Not wheat or corn however, but noise that was intended at some point to approximate film grain. As the show was filmed digitally, this was always fake, but even fake grain stands up poorly to MPEG-2 compression. Recompression with half the bitrate results in nearly unwatchable garbage; averaged out blocks dancing as far as the eye can see.

In an attempt to salvage the video quality and deliver the best approximate of the original experience, the scenes that included this fake grain have been aggressively smoothed, and then even more grain layered over the top. This new grain is larger and even less like true film grain than the original, but it has the benefit of obscuring blocks that averaged out, making it merely look low detail behind the wall of grain. x264 is very capable of preserving such grain, but it comes at a price: bitrate.

It was at this point that we realized the true depths of the horrors some anonymous Japanese person loosed upon the world by running these last three discs through DVDShrink. May god have no mercy on his soul.

This effectively symbolizes the treatment of Agito in Decade.

We mean the picture, not the link. The link is just the episode, there's nothing symbolic about it.

Masked Rider Agito - 38

You didn't say the magic word.

By the way, do not believe the lies wikipedia has told you. The events of the TV special contradict this episode entirely, and would have spoiled you on the previous. Neither the special nor the movie are canon, and as such will be released after the end as the bonus features they are.

Jumbofiles will be the death of us.

Masked Rider Agito - 37

What a cutie.

Similarly, now with more different link.

Incidentally, this marks the first episode of volume 10, which is the first of three five episode discs, and therefore also a sharp downturn in video quality. It'll be a little while before it's painfully obvious though.

If anybody has more money than sense and wants to contribute things, proper DVD9 rips of volumes 10-12 (nobody needs/wants money or to hold onto physical goods of this) would be a very good place to start. The first nine volumes are bitrate starved in places, but nowhere near as pressingly.

Shit sources aren't going to stop this train from rolling though.

Masked Rider Agito - 29

So, how did that cliffhanger we ended the last group with make you feel? We are truly evil, we know. We did not intend to be this long between releases, as the original plan was to quickly dump episodes out until reaching the first place that the TV Special and Movie make sense (they are not canon and therefore never really do), but the TV Special is awful and sapped our will to live.

As such, the project languished for aeons, up until finally someone pushed through and finished the awful special, the middling movie, and even spurred on the completion of primary scrubbing of the remainder of the series.

You read that correctly, the primary scrub/edit/timing of the series is complete through all 51 episodes.

That is of course not to suggest we could release everything tomorrow, but it is to say that the hard work is done. In fact, encoding is done through volume 11 (oh damn you volume 11) of 12, though none of the episodes on it have been shifted back to be timed against the real DVD yet.

This episode is a done-in-one, so you needn't fear more cliffhangers while you wait for more episodes. It also features probably our favorite comedy gags from the show. Oh, and also it features the advent of a new translation for the OP, courtesy of Over-Time's HeatMetal, as it never made sense to leave that as-is given the other... issues with CAP's translations. Anyway, enjoy.
